Privacy
Privacy, in short.
This guide is a set of static pages. It has no accounts, no forms and no cookies, and it measures nothing about who reads it. This page says exactly what that means, and what would change it.
What we handle
| What | Why | How long |
|---|---|---|
| Your theme choice (key ncl-theme, in your browser’s local storage) | So the site opens the way you left it: light, dark or matching your device. | Until you clear your browser data. It is never sent to us. |
| Server logs: IP address, time, page requested, browser type | Delivering the pages and keeping the site secure and working. | Kept by our host on its own schedule. We do not add to them, use them to profile anyone or join them to other data. |
| Map tile requests, map page only: IP address, browser type, the map area you view | Drawing the map. | Handled by OpenStreetMap under its own policy. Nothing about you comes back to us. |
That is the full list today.
Map tiles
The map page draws its background from OpenStreetMap’s tile servers at tile.openstreetmap.org. To send you those tiles, your browser contacts them directly, so OpenStreetMap receives your IP address, your browser type and the map squares you request, which show roughly the area you are looking at.
Only the map page does this; no other page contacts OpenStreetMap. What OpenStreetMap does with that information is set out in its own policy.
Links to other sites
Place pages carry a link that opens the location in Google Maps. It is an ordinary link: your browser contacts Google only if you follow it, and from then on Google’s privacy policy applies, not this one. Other links to outside sites work the same way.
We have no partner or affiliate links today. If we add them, this page is updated first, and it will say that the partner, not us, sets its own cookies once you follow the link.
On your device
The only thing this site stores on your device is your theme choice, under the key ncl-theme in your browser’s local storage. It holds one word: light, dark or auto. Your own browser uses it to set the colours; it is not sent to us or to anyone else.
This site sets no cookies. To remove the theme choice, clear this site’s data in your browser settings; the theme then goes back to matching your device.
If this changes
We may later add visitor statistics (analytics). If we do, this page is updated first, in both languages, saying what is measured, by whom and for how long. Analytics would load only after you agree, refusing would be as easy as accepting, and nothing would be sent to the analytics provider before then. You could withdraw at any time.
Your rights
Because this site keeps no account, profile or contact list, there is normally no personal data of yours for us to look up. Even so, you may ask what we hold about you, ask us to correct or delete it, object to how it is used, and complain to the data protection authority where you live.
In the TRNC this is governed by the Personal Data Protection Law (No. 89/2007). If you are in the EU, the UK or Turkey, the GDPR, the UK GDPR or Turkey’s KVKK (Law No. 6698) may give you the same rights and more. Server logs are held by our host; if your request concerns them, we will pass it on.
